In a traditional community like ours there is a space between children and parents. Children when they reach adolescence are devoid of any friends to share their personal problems particularly anything related to sex. Madheswaran says ‘This gap has been filled by silambam master in the earlier times. Silambam master is like an  elderly  brother outside the family. with whom they could share and get counselled’.

Project Eyam is trying to engage people with oral history of people of Tamilnadu and  through the insights of both old and young to question the mainstream perceptions and explore how this could help bring a deeper understanding about our society’s past and present.
